i know its been a hot minute since i last posted to this blog. but i just came back for a moment to reflect on the following observations.

i am by no means the cleanest person i know. as i type this, there are eight (count ‘em!) empty beer bottles next to my bed. {go ahead and judge me– some people say drinking gives you problems, but it just makes all of mine disappear.} and yet, give me any nonprofit organization in this country and employ me at a grossly low wage, and i’ll betcha that i will be the first person to clean out your kitchen/shop/garage/dormitory hallway in the last eight years.

PEOPLE. it is TIME to start a REVOLUTION. if you work at a nonprofit organization please go to your dirtiest closet, bathroom, or company snack cupboard. do it tomorrow. and for god’s sake, CLEAN IT. CLEANNNNN ITTTT.

today i began a new  “job” {also known as marginally compensated volunteering} as an art teacher at a national nonprofit and had to put the kabash on any art making for the first day and a half of my teacher term. why? because i am l.i.t.e.r.a.l.l.y. cleaning years of dirt and grime from shelves and weeding out industrial loads of hoarded seed beads and matted yarn.

y;all. this is what swiffer was made for. go forth and clean.

steve jobs was giving his stanford speech about how if a person wakes up too many mornings in a row and doesn’t want to go to work they should quit and do something else. something about being naked already.

and i was flying high on steve jobs and his awesome wisdom. and i was inspired by the urge to runRUNRUN and DO great things and i want to be a BETTER PERSON and i want to MAKE THE WORLD BETTER and

WHAM.

someone rear-ended me. i looked behind. it was a lady in her early 80′s and she was freaking out. i parked the car, turned on the flashers, and went to ask her if she was okay.

‘i am so sorry i just didn’t see and i guess i just let up and’

ma’am. are you okay?

‘yes, yes dear i am fine i am okay but i don’t know if you just want some money or’

ma’am. my car is 12 years old. its fine. are you okay, though? i just want to make sure you are okay.

‘yes. i think i am. .. are you?’

i’m fine. my car is fine. if you are okay, let’s just go on, shall we?

it was at this point in the conversation that she said something to me in yiddish. i don’t know what it was, but i’m going to say that it was a blessing.

and i feel better already knowing that i cared about her more than my car.

-overheard on the subway last wednesday

hello again, internet. its been awhile.

since i last wrote here i have run a half marathon, finished my master’s degree, fallen in love and lost that love, and worked for two and a half months at minimum wage.

i was listening to that nice gentleman on the subway the other day and i was thinking about how he must feel.

he was a well dressed man with a towel around his neck. he hopped off the train and i watched him wipe tears off his face. i didn’t have any cash. i also didn’t have any advice.

so. it appears that i am currently a bit too distracted to do this regularly.

i finished my second half marathon!! aaaand–

I FINISHED IN UNDER 2:15!!! I finished in 2 hours 10 minutes!!! YAY!

i will put up a picture of me whenever the website shoots it over!

i know that we are all over halloween already. i mean, i am over halloween. i was over it starting at about 2:30 on saturday morning, but i would be remiss if i didn’t at least share a couple photographs of my part-ayyyyy from friday.

here is my ghost! after i hung up two strands of target halloween lights i realized that two strands of lights do not a party make. so i went to my closet and dug out a $5 ikea throw with coffee stains on it. one sign made with hi-liters, four pushpins,  and three black felt circles later….

i LOVE faux fur.

(for the record– i’m not a hater. i’m a serious, long-term ethical vegetarian but i don’t hate on meat eaters. i don’t hate on fur-wearers either. please don’t hate on me.)

sometimes i get this feeling like i really NEED a certain thing super bad. it happened in may over a sequin skirt. i eventually got it. now i NEED some faux fur accessories. the list includes:

its called a “trapper.” not like trapper-keeper, but like ONE WHO TRAPS THINGS for furs. bad vegetarian.

and then this thing. i love it. and they didn’t even bother to take off the faux horns! bad vegetarian.

even jewelry! i even want fur cuffs!

ok really? i think that bracelet is just foul.  i just felt like i should have one more fur thing on here.

sometimes its just hard to be good, you know?

now. i normally love to talk about how no THIS boot is the greatest or THAT one is the one i need. but for just $200 i could have a boot that comes very close to resembling these boots below that i will never, ever find because they are out of production.

i saw them for the first time on melissa’s blog omgunicornz.  she’s quite an inspiration, that one. check out her unicorn costume from halloween!
